Né en 1955, diplômé de HEC et titulaire d’un DEA de Cinématographie et d’un DEA Sciences Politiques, Michel Poirier commence sa carrière comme Secrétaire général adjoint du circuit Parafrance.
Entre 1982 et 1985, il occupe la fonction de Secrétaire Général de l' A.F.P.F. alors principal
syndicat de producteurs cinéma, puis fonde en 1985 et dirige la société de production et de distribution LES FILMS SINGULIERS, qui produira ou diffusera des films de Frédéric Rossif, Peter Watkins, Christian Lara, Idrissa Ouedraogo, Rachid Benhadj, Jiri Menzel, notamment.
Michel Poirier a également été co-fondateur de la société de distribution Les Films Pluriels.
De 2001 à 2004 , il a été délégué général de l' A.F.P.F.
D’autre part, il fut, entre 1995 et 2002, Conseiller Municipal de Montreuil, puis Conseiller Général de Seine-Saint-Denis.

Born in 1955, graduate of HEC (top French business school) and post-graduate degrees in film and political science, Michel Poirier started his career as Deputy General Secretary for the Parafrance chain.
From 1982 to 1985, he was General Secretary for the A.F.P.F. (main association of French film producers at the time), then founded in 1985 and continues to head LES FILMS SINGULIERS, a production and distribution company that has produced or distributed films by Frédéric Rossif, Peter Watkins, Christian Lara, Idrissa Ouedraogo, Rachid Benhadj, Jiri Menzel, among others.
Michel Poirier was also co-founder of the film distribution company Les Films Pluriels.
From 2001 to 2004 , he was managing director of the A.F.P.F..
From 1995 to 2002, he has also been elected a Council Member of the city of Montreuil then a Council member for the county of Seine-Saint-Denis.
